First export order for Te Mata Cheese Company 1 November 2006
They’ll be eating our cheese in Australia very soon.
The first export order from the Te Mata Cheese Company in Hawke’s Bay will be sent to Australia later this week.
A major distributor in Perth has ordered a selection of Te Mata Cheeses including Kidnappers, Irongate, Paki Paki and Te Mata’s three blue cheeses.
These will be distributed to restaurants, speciality delis and hotels around Perth.
Te Mata Cheese Company founder, Karryn Bish, says it’s an exciting new phase for the cheese factory.
“Our overseas research has identified a real gap in the international market, and there is a lot of excitement about New Zealand cheese around the world,” says Karryn.
She says Te Mata Cheese has also been approached by people in Singapore, Japan, and America all wanting to import cheese.
“There are also New Zealand exporters interested in taking Te Mata Cheese to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and Fiji,” says Karryn.
Some of the interested clients are distributors and others are selling directly to the public.
Te Mata Cheese Company was established in July last year. Since then the company has developed a full range of products, won 14 medals and secured the top trophy for the best new cheese at the prestigious 2006 Cuisine Champions of Cheese Awards.
